Changes to School Lunch

Hamilton County students and their families will see changes to the District’s school meal program this fall as the federal government’s pandemic assistance expires. The expiration of the federal program, which is run by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, means school meals will no longer be free for all students in our district. 

With the start of the 2022-23 school year, school meal programs will go back to how they operated before the pandemic. While some schools will qualify for free lunches for all students under federal guidelines, others, including your school, will not. However, many families at your school will still qualify for free and reduced lunch prices based on income. To receive these benefits, you must complete and submit a Free and Reduced Lunch application. If your family qualified for free or reduced price meals before the pandemic, you will likely still be eligible unless your income has changed substantially.

The application process for free or reduced price lunch is now open. Families are encouraged to complete and submit the application if they have been eligible in the past or if they think they may be eligible now. Completing the process now will simplify the process once school starts. The application can be found at:
